What it covers

Removal is the
easy part. Clean
is the job.

Asbestos removal is the part everyone sees. What decides whether a space is actually safe to re-occupy is what happens after it: decontamination, and a clearance inspection that proves it was done properly.

Most of our crews' training is focused on decontamination. The methods have been monitored and approved by independent occupational hygienists, and air monitoring is used to demonstrate how clean a work area is once decontamination is finished.

We hold Class A and B asbestos licences in every state, and deliver removal for Defence, education and health facilities, commercial strip-outs and private property owners. All to the same standard, because the fibres do not care who owns the building.

Many asbestos removal firms will not mention, or will try to avoid, clearance inspections and certificates.

How a job runs

Five stages.
The same every time.

This is our process on every asbestos job, regardless of size. The stage most of our training goes into is the third one.

01

Preparation

Safety documentation is prepared and the regulator notified before we arrive, with a notification letter for your neighbours. An asbestos work area is established with sheeting to control dust and air movement, and obstructions are only removed once that containment is up.

Preparation
02

Removal

The priority is limiting fibre release. Sheets come out whole wherever possible and are kept wet with a fine mist, then wrapped at the source or carried along a defined transit route to a lined skip or truck.

03

Decontamination

The most time-consuming and most important stage. Four overlapping methods: HEPA vacuum detailing from the highest point down, wet wiping of every dust-catching surface, a clearance inspection, and a PVA binder coat that permanently seals any fibres left in timber or nail holes.

04

Clearance

A clearance inspection by a competent person independent of the removal work, checking the work area for any visible dust or debris of any kind. It is quality assurance, and it is required for safe and legal removal.

05

Hand over

The work area is handed back safe to re-occupy, with the documentation to prove it.

Before you call

The questions
we actually get.

Written for the person who has to justify the appointment internally, not for a search engine.

What is the difference between bonded and friable asbestos?

Bonded asbestos is fixed into another material, typically cement sheeting, and is stable while it is in good condition. Friable asbestos can be crumbled, pulverised or reduced to powder by hand pressure, which makes it far more likely to release fibres. Friable asbestos can only be removed under a Class A licence. We hold both Class A and Class B.

Do you do a clearance inspection at the end of the job?

On every job. A clearance inspection is carried out by a competent person independent of the removal work, meaning someone who was not involved in the preparation, removal or decontamination stages. They inspect the work area for any visible dust or debris, not just asbestos. It is quality assurance, and it is required for safe and legal asbestos removal.

What should I do if asbestos has been damaged?

Get people out of the area first. That is the single most effective thing you can do. Do not touch or disturb the damaged material without proper PPE and training, and do not assume wet material is safe: some asbestos products repel water, so a sheet that is wet on the outside can still be dry inside and release fibres if it is disturbed further. Then call us.

How do I know if something contains asbestos?

You cannot tell by looking, and there are no on-the-spot or DIY test kits, because asbestos is chemically inert. A sample has to be analysed under a microscope by a NATA-approved laboratory. Until then, treat any suspicious fibre cement or fibro material as though it contains asbestos.

Which states are you licensed in?

We hold Class A and Class B asbestos removal licences in every state, and our crews travel as required. We have completed asbestos projects from Brisbane to Perth and Hobart to Weipa.

Can you remove asbestos as part of a demolition?

Yes, and it is usually the better way to do it. Asbestos, SMF, lead and PCBs are removed in-house under our own licences as part of the demolition scope, so the programme does not stop while a second contractor mobilises.
